As part of their Irish tour, the ‘Girls’ 21′ Cherry Creek High School Choir, Colorado will perform in the beautiful and historic Ballintubber Abbey together with St Joseph’s Secondary School Senior Choir, on Friday March 23rd, at 8pm. Earlier that day the choir will visit St Joseph’s Secondary School, Castlebar and share musical experiences and build new friendships. The concert and exchange is facilitated by the Mayo International Choral Festival.
Girls’ 21 is an auditioned female choir from Cherry Creek High School, a public school near Denver, Colorado, recently recognised as a GRAMMY Signature School of Excellence. Girls’ 21 is comprised of 47 sophomore, junior and senior girls dedicated to finding the fun in being serious about excellence. The choir stresses not only the aesthetics of music, but also an understanding of music literacy, theory, and history through the performance of quality choral literature. Girls’ 21 tours annually, rotating between domestic and international destinations. Their proud history includes appearances at numerous state MENC/NAfME conventions, Southwest ACDA in 1992 and 2016, and National ACDA in 1989 and 1997. Directed by Adam Cave, the members are really looking forward to touring and performing in the West of Ireland.
St Joseph’s Secondary School Senior Choir
The members of St Joseph’s Secondary School Senior Choir are students from 5th and 6th years and
love performing! Under the direction of Ms Deirdre Lee, the choir rehearse weekly and enjoy performing at school and community functions, as well as taking part in competition. Plans for 2018, in addition to the concert in Ballintubber Abbey with the Cherry Creek choir, include competing at the Limerick Choral Festival in March, and performing at the Mayo International Choral Festival in May. The accompanist is Maria Ruddy.
Please note that due to circumstances beyond control, St Joseph’s Gospel Choir as previously advertised, will not perform at the concert.
